Ricardo Petrella is an Italian economist. He received a doctorate from the University of Florence in Social and Political Science and started his career doing research on education and the place of social sciences in society. Very quickly, he gained notoriety by participating in the implementation of education programs and research in social sciences. In 1991, he founded the Lisbon Group, which exposes the disadvantages of competition. Then, in 1997, he participated in the creation of the Committee for a World Contract on Water.
