Monique BARBUT studied economics and is currently the director and president of the World Environment Fund. She is also director of the technology department for United Nations Environment Programme, (UNEP) in Paris. Monique Barbut played a key role in the financial negotiations at the World Summit in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro. She was also one of the founders of FEM.
Monique Barbut has held various positions in the public service, notably with the Development Bank, the “Banque de France” and the “Caisse Centrale de Coopération Economique” (now called the Agence Française de Développement, the main French organisation that provides with overseas aid).
