Professor Herbert Girardet is an author, consultant and filmmaker who focuses on sustainable urban development. He is the director of research for the World Future Council Initiative, a UN Global 500 Award recipient, and an honorary fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He has authored and co-authored 10 books and 50 television documentaries, the most recent being a six-part series called ‘The People’s Planet’. Mr. Girardet is a guest professor at the University of the West of England and Northumbria University in the UK. In 2003, as a ‘Thinker in Residence’ in Adelaide, he developed sustainability strategies for South Australia which are now being implemented. His book, ‘Cities, People Planet – Liveable Cities for a Sustainable World’, was published by John Wiley, London and New York, in 2004. He co-authored a new book titled ‘Dongtan Eco-City’, which has been pub-lished in 2006 by Arup and SIIC. Most recently he has edited ‘Surviving the Century – Facing Climate Chaos and Other Global Challenges’, published by Earthscan in May 2007.
