Denmark has rapidly become aware of the need to reduce its use of pesticides. The Danish government have acknowledged the significant impact of pesticides on the environment, observing particularly a decline in biodiversity proportionate to the amount of phytosanitary products used. In 1986, the country launched its first Pesticide Action Plan, leading to a reduction in application frequency of pesticides from 3.1 at the start of the 1990s, to 2.1 between 2001-2003. 2009 will mark the end of the 3rd Action Plan with the aim of an application frequency less than 1.7: a reduction of almost half in 20 years.
