The famous French designer Philippe Starck has just created (May 2008) six domestic wind turbines which cost about 400 Euros. These wind turbines will be able to supply between 10 and 60 % of households’ individual needs. They still need to be tested on a large scale. For its part, Broadstar, a company based in Texas has invented a vertical axis wind turbine: the AeroCam. This wind turbine looks like a waterwheel. The blades are turned towards the wind to optimise their wind intake. This wind turbine has the advantage of being small and therefore, better suited to all forms of urban or rural supports but as profitable as classic wind turbines on a horizontal axis because it even functions when there isn’t much wind.
