Electricity has not yet reached all countrysides. In Burkina Faso, the electrification rate is only 10 %. To give a larger number of people access to electricity, the World Energy Fund and the Réseau des Caisses Populaires du Burkina-Faso have set up an « energy credit »: the villagers purchase photovoltaic kits using loans. Since 2002 , more than 200 kits have been bought like this, thus providing electricity to 2 000 people. This method of finance makes up for the electrical networks’ shortcomings. Autonomous electrification is also more eco-friendly.
