The respect for biodiversity sometimes means going back to traditional methods, especially where agriculture is concerned. In Aveyron, a dozen farmers, together with the League for the Protection of Birds (Ligue de protection des oiseaux (LPO)) has set up a hedge restoration and preservation program which benefits pollinating insects, birds and mammals. In 2006, LPO Aveyron Grands Causses took an inventory of species before training farmers to look after the hedges. In a year, 1.2 km of hedges were planted and this is just a start.
