Since November 2007, a railway link has been established between the centre of Paris and the warehouses of the Monoprix stores which are 30 km away from the capital. In Bercy, the goods are stored in a 3 700 m² warehouse. They are then dispatched to the stores by natural gas-powered vehicles fitted with noise-reducing equipment. This initiative, supported by the city of Paris, the Île-de-France region and the SNCF amongst others should eventually reduce the number of lorries circulating in the capital by 10 000 and prevent the emission of 280 tons of CO2 and 19 tons of mono-nitrogen oxides a year.
