The agricultural engineer Jacques Gasc has developed a drip feed irrigation technique for fruit and vegetable plants. The technique consists in burying a sheath made of a reservoir and a pierced protective tube containing soil taken from the surface near the plant’s base. The water soaks into the ground and is absorbed by the roots. 24 months after the planting, when the roots have reached layers of moisture further below, the biodegradable sheath decomposes. In arid countries, this technique makes it possible to regularly top up water levels with limited supplies and reduces the risks of desertification.
