Since 2006, the city of Brest has organised a walking school bus, the Pédibus. Parents take it in turns to accompany children aged between 3 and 11 to school. The city council has set up « lines », stops and a timetable for the daily routes. Over 1 000 children take advantage of it daily in the Rennes region and thousands of others in many other European cities.
This limits the number of car journeys and therefore also reduces the emissions of polluting gases, traffic and the risks of road accidents.
