Cabbage mosquito nets

In Benin in 2007, farmers developed a means of fighting the larvae and fleas of some of the insects which devastate the cabbage crops : every evening, they put insecticide-treated polyester mosquito nets over their plantations.

This technique limits the uncontrolled spreading of insecticide ; it is less expensive, less dangerous, pollutes less and is just as effective as traditional insecticide spreading if it is used well. The experiment is being conducted with the support of the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development CIRAD, the French Research institute for development (IRD), the French Embassy and the NGO, Apretectra.
