Since 2005, forest farmers in the state of Para in Brazil have created the first group of « green label » wood producers to protect the forest whilst using its products in the most profitable way without necessarily cutting down the trees. The production of nut flour in Brazil, in addition to cassava root flour, allows 2 350 families to make a living and products made from latex extracted from the rubber tree (vegetal leather) helps 200 families. This complimentary relationship between trees and crops called agroforestry, which aims to use the environment’s resources more effectively is gradually being developed all over the world.
