Swedish wood biorefinery

Published on: Last updated:

Sweden is relying on wood to develop new fuels. An experimental « biorefinery » has been in operation since 2005 in Örnsköldsvik (500 km north of Stockholm). This prototype installation prototype makes it possible to make ethanol from wood chips and sawdust. This is how 400 litres of ethanol is obtained with 2 tons of dry matter. Sweden’s ambition is to free itself from its dependence on oil before 2020.
