According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Millenium Development Goal (MDG) target of halving the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water has been reached early in March. 884 million people worldwide still do not have access to clean drinking water though - that is almost one out of every seven people - and 2 million of them die every year. To continue the "7 billion Others" project, new films about the development problems, including one on the issue of water, was realized in 16 countries.

The global average surface temperature in 2011 was the ninth warmest since 1880.The finding sustains a trend that has seen the 21st century experience nine of the 10 warmest years in the modern meteorological record. NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York released an analysis of how temperatures around the globe in 2011 compared to the average global temperature from the mid-20th century.
