Sustainable aquiculture
26/08/2008
In 2003, the French Institute of Research for Development (l’Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD)) has been experimenting an aquiculture closed circuit farming pilot project in Mbour in Senegal. This farming system rests on a closed water circuit. This method saves about 2/3 of the food that is distributed, considerably reduces waste, isolates the farm, prevents local biodiversity from genetic pollution through aquacultured fish escaping, uses seawater available in unlimited supplies and saves energy through the use of renewable energies.
