Giving back the fleuves to the fish
26/08/2008
It is vital to allow some fish to move freely in rivers so that they can migrate and reproduce. But in the Loire, migrating fish such as salmons and eels find it difficult to swim upstream because of the dams. To make this easier for them, the Saint-Étienne-du-Vigan dams on the Haut-Allier et de Maisons-Rouges on the Vienne river were destroyed in 1998, whilst a passage for fish was made in Vichy. The salmon were therefore able to swim upstream after having been absent there for several decades.
