Human activities have substantially increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This increase enhances the natural greenhouse effect and causes global warming, from which natural ecosystems and humankind could suffer. It is estimated, based on the current level of greenhouse gas emissions, that an additional warming between 1.5 degrees and 5.8 degrees and a sea-level increase from 9 to 88cm could occur between now and 2100.
