Venezuela is a South American federal republic, known for its biodiversity and its beautiful landscape. Christopher Colombus, in August 1498, called Ysla de Gracia (Grace Island) the earth he landed on, which he mistook for an island. The expression Tierra de Gracia (Land of Grace) became the country's nickname.
