Vegetalized barriers against the tsunami

From 2006 to 2007, the government of Tamil Nadu, a state at India’s land’s end (in the south-east) and the Forest Department spent more than 2.5 million Euros on installing 2 850 hectares of vegetalized barriers and 1 650 hectares of mangrove swamps. This is because mangroves and forests along the coast are effective shields against natural disasters like tsunamis and other cyclones.
