No to selective abortions
15/09/2008
India now faces a serious problem : a lack of girls. For every 1 000 male births, there are only 927 girls. The reason for this? They are prevented from being born. Due to prenatal medical progress, selective abortions have become common despite a 1994 law which forbids the prenatal sex detection. To solve the problem the authorities, certain religious leaders and non-governmental organizations have organised campaigns against the selective abortions of female foetuses. Marches have thus taken place in the most affected regions for the message to reach the largest number of people.
