Get women out of poverty

Women living in the countryside belong to the most vulnerable populations. They are the first victims of extreme poverty in many countries especially Bangladesh. It is in this country that Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel peace prize winner, set up the Grameen Bank in 1983. This is also where the BRAC (Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee), created in 1972, made it possible for 4 million people to take out a microcredit. Some of these were women who took out loans to develop a textile industry. These small sums of money allowed them to come out of extreme poverty by starting a business. The BRAC has also launched micro-insurance based on the same principle.
