Development in Nepal, a real business
26/08/2008
Formation Carpets is a traditional carpets company set up in 1992 by Sulo Shah, a Nepalese woman with a degree in Mathematics. Her company stands out by forbidding child labour (a practice which is widespread in this sector). It has launched a health cover program and offers its female workers a day of rest a week and decent wages. It also mixes castes without discriminating.
Today, the company has more than 160 employees and is recognized worldwide as an example of the sustainable emancipation of women; they make up 95 % of its workforce.
