As well as being taught about the environment as part of their natural science classes, they take part in nine play-based workshops that help them discover different species and become aware of environmental issues (the water cycle, waste problems and the equilibrium of the environment, for example). These workshops take place at the ‘Tortugario de Cuyutlán’ preservation centre, which studies the natural behaviour of sea turtles, iguanas, crocodiles and various species of birds, and helps them to reproduce. 45 000 students have benefited from the programme. The project is supported at the highest level, as the president of the Environmental Protection Commission for Colima is given a place on the management of Tortugario. |
Over half of the 6000 languages spoken on the planet are under threat. 96% of these 6000 languages are only spoken by 4% of the world's population. Les langues permettent de véhiculer tout un ensemble de valeurs et d'expressions culturelles qui constituent un facteur déterminant dans l'identité des groupes et des individus. Il y a 10000 ans, il y avait, estime-t-on, 12000 langues parlées. Aujourd'hui, il n'en reste plus que 6000. Une langue disparaît toutes les 2 semaines. Prés de 550 langues sont parlées couramment par moins de 100 locuteurs, ce qui augmente leur probabilité de disparaître. 516 d'entre elles sont déjà considérées comme disparues. A ce rythme, dans 10 ans il ne resterait plus que 2500 langues parlées. Certains prédisent même que 9 langues sur 10 dans le monde disparaîtront, remplacées par des langues dominantes avant la fin du siècle. |
